Hamlet 1+2

In act one we find out that hamlets father has been killed by his newly instated step father, which is his fathers brother, hamlet then creates a plan that allows him to find out that if the ghost of his father is telling the truth by producing a play with a slight twist to the story.

He is doing this becasue he also thinks the ghost could be the devil so he needs to be sure before he gets revenge.

I think Shakespear has already established Tragedy becasue there has already been a death, a betrayal, lies have been created, and we have a plot to murder someone else. Also where hamlet is telling to many lies he is causing his own tragedy by lying to the one s he loves like ophelia and his mother.

Hamlet is also stuck in his plans becasue the ghost of his father has told him to leave his mother alone and not get her involved but he will eventually end up hurting her.
We instantly feel for hamlet becasue as he is hurtintg he is having to lose so many things that he wants to hold close to him, his mother, ophelia and he has already lost his father.
He doesnt have time to mourn his father before he has to avenge him.

The Great Gatsby: Chapter 9

Chapter 9

In chapter 9 we come to the end of the book and the Nick description of the events of what happened after Gatsby’s death. We also get the introduction of a character that I think is quite important to in understanding why Jay Gatsby was hatched from James Gatz. We also gets Nicks realisation of upper class superiority amongst the people he considered his mutual friends.
At the start of the chapter Nick phones Daisy but the person on the phone states that her and tom have left baggage and all and that they left no contact, nick puts this off and expects her to phone later, but she doesn’t he then realises that she had no intention of coming, this ties in with the last part of the chapter where Nick says “They were careless people, Tom and Daisy – they smashed things up and creatures and then retreated back in to their money and their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made……” he now knows that Daisy is truly under Tom’s control as she did have the chance to leave him but she is too obsessed with the image of a perfect upper class life. Tom leads Daisy around like a dog on a leash all because she can have a nice life with her husband and daughter, it suggest that when they moved from France, to the east of America they were just waiting to ruin someone else’s life this time it just happened to be the one person who wanted her to come back. But considering she supposedly loved Gatsby you would have thought she would have phoned up or at least sent a card but she doest which suggests the whole affair was a lie.
We then get the one person who truly knows Gatsby, his father, although Nick has no possible way of contacting His father he finds out because of course Gatsby’s death is big news and it is heard all the way up in Chicago in the news papers which is where he finds out about his sons death. “He was on the point of collapse … but he wouldn’t eat and the glass of milk spilled from his trembling hand” I think Nick includes this description because it shows how truly devastated his father is, No father should have to bury their own son, maybe they didn’t speak that often but he still bought him up and was his own. “His grief began to be mixed with an awed pride” it shows just how proud he is off his son for building himself up from nothing to this great mansion.
We then get a phone call from “Mr. Klipspringer” who was the apparent border in the house. But once again it is another person who used Gatsby because he says to Nick that he wont be coming to the funeral, all these people that turned up to the parties and made up so many rumours about him, wouldn’t be coming to the funeral, he realised now that they only wanted a place to go so they be scandalous and to display their lives full of pointless gossip and money. Even “Meyer Wolfshiem” wouldn’t come to the funeral he gave a justly reason because he couldn’t be seen there as it was too risky for him to be seen. Fitzgerald now uses the perfect time to include bad weather “when I left his office the sky had turned dark and I got back to west egg in a drizzle” I think this is good language description because it symbolises that everything that Nick has been trying for, trying to get people to Gatsby funeral, has just gone out like a light, because the one person he depended on, wasn’t going to go.
I think the way Gatsby’s dad calls him “Jimmy” makes him seem a lot less profound. It makes him sound like they have a good father / son relationship. “Jimmy” makes him sound like a laid back person who was very young at heart I think this puts a positive note on Gatsby as it helps us to imagine him as a child. We then get the Schedule that Gatsby made for himself when he was younger, we know it is from his youth because one his dad has it and secondly because it is “Hopalong Cassidy”, it shows how hell-bent he was on becoming someone better then his father as it says “read one improving book or magazine per week” “practise poise elocution and how to attain it” this shows that as a young boy he just wanted his life to be better then the one he had. I think it is important that when it is Gatsby’s funeral it is raining because it shows that something truly horrible is happening and the insight into a man’s life that appeared to have many friend yet those “friends” didn’t go to his funeral. Then the one person that does turn up to the burial couldn’t believe that no-one else had turned up, which showed that even the little people matter when it comes to friends.
We then get Nicks description of his own life after Gatsby’s death and how he couldn’t stay in the east anymore because he saw Gatsby everywhere he went. I think the way he next describes his leaves is good as he says “So when the smoke of brittle leaves was in the air and the wind blew the wet laundry stiff on the line I decided to come back home” he’s like a bird, he goes where the wind takes him, in this way him and Daisy are alike.
We then get the Ending of the sub-story between Nick and Jordan, and she realises that he has done her a favour by giving her a new experience with men, I think this is important because she has more of a chance of becoming less like Daisy and hurting everyone she meets.
I think the way Nick leaves the image of Gatsby house represents the way Gatsby life turned out to be. It was built up to be something of impressive valour, much like Gatsby did to himself, and when Nick says “I went over and looked at that huge incoherent failure of a house once more” this symbolises the vast mass of emptiness insides the house and insides Gatsby’s life, it was purpose built to fill the needs of one person and that person fled when things got hard.
I think Fitzgerald in the last line is proposing one big life lesson “so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past” I think he is proposing it as a big life lesson because he says we, which means he isn’t speaking to one person he is speaking about all people, I think he’s trying to say that you’ll always have the past on your shoulders, if it’s a struggle to get through it or if its easy then others, but you just have to get on with it until the day it all ends.

The Great Gatsby: Chapter 8

Chapter 8
This is the chapter following the tragic events of Myrtles Death in chapter seven, in this chapter we see a very different side to all the characters as we see what they do in the face of panic and strife. Everything changes in this chapter to the descriptions of the locations to the relationships between the characters. Nick describes everything so that you get the impression that everything is a lot darker because of the previous events.
He starts the chapter of by saying how he cannot sleep and how as soon as Gatsby returns he jumps straight out of bed so go tell him that he should go away. This shows the true friendship that he and Gatsby have made, that he feels the need to protect him to tell him to go away and to show that he cares, but Gatsby of course refuses because he thinks he is protecting Daisy.
Nick describes Gatsby house with trepidation now, its like as soon as myrtle died so did the passion and life in Gatsby house “His house had never seemed to enormous to me that night as we searched through the great rooms for cigarettes……………”.
The chapter also revolves around reflection as each character reflects on their discoveries of each other and what they have come to think of each other. This is the night Gatsby tells Nick about his youth of meeting Dan Cody who changed his life and Daisy who also had an even bigger effect on his life, he tells Nick that it was because Daisy was so “nice” to him, he had never known a girl to be like this to him, and from that moment onwards he was entranced. I think it is odd that Gatsby thinks “it excited him too that many men had already loved daisy – it increased her value in his eyes. He felt their presence all about the house, pervading their air with shades and echoes of still vibrant emotions” I think it excites him because he has her now no-one else. But the contrast of Gatsby and Nick’s different descriptions here is important because we know that Nick thinks she’s innocent with the constant comparisons from angels and white lights around her but here we get told that she isn’t as innocent but both men still take her for what she is.
We then get another assessment of Daisy as Gatsby says “Gatsby was overwhelmingly aware of the youth and mystery that wealth imprisons and preserves” this coincides with what Gatsby says in chapter 7 “her voice is full of money” and then Nick agrees by saying “that was it. I’d never understood before, it was full of money – that was the inexhaustible charm that rose and fell in it, the cymbals’ song of it… High in a white palace the king’s daughter, the golden girl……” I think this quote is important as it shows us just what daisy is like and it perfects the description of her that Nick has been longing to describes, but I find it odd that Gatsby realises this but it doesn’t bother him, he knows she is some what snobbish and full of money and arrogance but he loves her anyway. I like the way Nick uses “the Golden Girl” at the end of his sentence because the golden girl was often described for a goody two shoes who can get away with any thing, and she does, she is the reason Gatsby is dead and yet she still gets away with it, she just leaves and starts her life somewhere else. This also relates to what Nick later says about her “Through the twilight universe Daisy began to move again with the season” she changes men like the seasons, a new one every few months.
Nick then describes the how like any teenager rebelling against her perfect life “Suddenly she was again keeping half a dozen dates with half a dozen men, and drowsing asleep at dawn with the beads and chiffon of an evening dress tangled among dying orchids on the floor besides her bed” it think this is important because she has told Gatsby that she is waiting for him yet we know that she isn’t she is lying to him. She is living a life full of lies even to her herself as Nick says “And all the time something within her life was crying for a decision.” I think this is important because she’s wants to stop what she doing and lead a normal honest life but she can’t because no-one is there to do it for her.
Nick uses a lot of repetitive language throughout the novel about Tom but in this chapter it changes it becomes more romantic and a lot less violent. He says daisy needed a force of some kind to help her, and that force came with Tom, but he doesn’t use force in a bad way like he does in Chapter 6 where he forces Daisy to go Gatsby’s party, this time he uses it in a much more romantic sense, because he was the force that saved Daisy from the ennui that engulfed her. He says “There was a wholesome bulkiness about his person and his position” I think the key word in this quote is “wholesome” because its a good word he normally uses words like “menacing” and “hulking” to describe Tom but this time he uses “wholesome” because this man who was completely different from Gatsby likes Daisy, he’s rich, he’s there and he likes her, so she leaves with him.
When Nick finally leaves Gatsby to himself Nick says “you’re worth the whole damn bunch put together…..Good bye, I enjoyed breakfast” I think for us and Gatsby this is important because it shows us that Nick really does care for Gatsby although they’ve only known each other for a few months and it shows Gatsby that he really does have one true single friend, this was the only compliment that he ever gave Gatsby and I think it was the only one he needed.
We then get the determination Of George Wilson to find his wife’s killer. Although he still partly blames himself for Myrtles death he knows that that person driving the car was responsible for it. This is a good ideology for the Chapter as it shows the determination some people are willing to put themselves through, because George comes all the way from New York with know knowledge and by the time he is in West Egg he knows that the person car was that of a man called Gatsby’s.
We then get Nicks realisation that he knows he shouldn’t have left Gatsby, coming back to the protection you should stay with someone to protect them. But it’s too late; because Gatsby told his servants to not interrupt him they couldn’t stop the death.
I think the language Nick uses at the end of the chapter is quite outlandish because he says “and the holocaust was complete” I think this is all in relation to how small the world around the people involved that summer was. Although it is stupid comparing it to the size of the holocaust.

What i think about Nick.

F.Scott Fitzgerald makes Nick one of the main characters and the narrator of the story. We start the book with a quick introduction to Nick and we are told some interesting things about him such as his dad has told him as a young man to "Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone.....just remember that all the people in this world haven't has the advantages that you've had" which tells us he comes from a wealthy background, with this in mind he is considered to go against what his father says as he gives some judgmental opinions on some of the characters "two shining arrogant eyes has established dominance over his face" and "her face was sad and lovely" these descriptions are important because they give us good imagery of the characters he is talking to. But throughout the story we learn some new things about Nicks personality, such as he thinks far too much and he also likes too keep too himself and not to interrupt too many peoples lives. He also gives everyone a chance that he meets, as he has heard a lot of rumors about Gatsby but he then creates a good balanced relationship with Gatsby, although Nick is always suspicious of Gatsby their friendship grows and he cannot forgive the persons responsible for his death. Nick is also a very curious character, he explores Gatsby’s house in search for him and also goes to New York with Tom although he is forced. Also although Nick is very opinionated he doesn't actually vocalize these opinions which suggest he is frightened of what people would say to him if they were heard. Over-all Nick is a good character as he allows us too imagine what the characters are like and what their lives involve. I think very often goes too far with his judgments as the people he judges may see him as boring and two-faced.
But seeing as Nick is a person who takes everything for what its worth and knows what he has and has worked hard for what he has received, in comparison to Daisy, considering he judges people he can also take in his own judgments and allow them to be the same and still be friends with them, for example he knows Jordan is a liar yet he still ends up falling for her, so considering all of this i think he is pretty decent bloke, although a little bit over the top.

The Great Gatsby: Chapter 4

Chapter four:

The start of chapter four starts with introduction of some of the people at a few of Gatsby’s parties, this is unusual as nick always seem to not bother with the guests he using names them “Mr. mumble”, the only person that he wouldn’t normally take account of is Jordan but this time we get individual introductions, I think this is important because it shows the scandal and snobbery of some of the people at the party. “And a whole clan named Blackbuck, who always gathered in a corner and flipped their noses like goats at whosoever came near” “And the Ismays and the Chrysties (or rather Hubert Auerbach and Mr. Chrystie’s wife)”. Nicks introduction also shows where these people come from and how guests at the parties travelled far and wide to come to these parties, “From father out on the island came the Cheadle’s and the O.R.P.Schraeders, and the Stonewall Jackson Abrams of Georgia”, The chapter also shows the age differences between the all the guests as Nick describes the Young and the old. The last line of all these descriptions is “all these people came to Gatsby’s house in the summer” suggesting that none of these characters ever bothered with Gatsby afterwards during the other Seasons of the year. They use him for his house and alcohol supplies.
The next little paragraph is quite important to the story as it says “It was the first time he had called on me…” this is important to nick as he is telling us that this is the first time Gatsby has called on him although he has been to many of his social events and has made se of his Beach and Hydroplane, I think this is important to nick because it shows that his and Gatsby’s relationship is growing, it suggests that Gatsby doesn’t look down on nick because he isn’t as wealthy as Gatsby is, its much more personal and strengthens there relationship.
The Language Gatsby uses is a lot like Tom where he forces Nick to come to lunch with him but he says it in a lot friendlier way, so we can see how the two characters are quite similar but in very different ways. The way Nick describes Gatsby posture when nick is admiring the car is quite important to the next bit of the chapter because it says “He was never quite still; there was always a tapping foot somewhere or the impatient opening and closing of a hand” I think this is important because it suggest that Gatsby by being impatient with polite company is waiting for something or is waiting to ask something, which he is. I think Nick ids then very disappointed with the way although he thinks Gatsby and himself are becoming closer Gatsby has yet to reveal himself to Nick, this is annoying Nick because he wants to know all about Gatsby. But I think Gatsby thinks the opposite of Nick, he values Nick’s opinion of him and wants to know what he thinks of him. He then proceeds to open up to Nick about his life, this is important because it also strengthens their relationship by Gatsby opening himself up to Nick.
In this chapter I think it is highly important that we get the information about Gatsby and Daisy previous relationship and what happened between them, we find out that they are completely in love before Gatsby goes away and that Daisy was very popular with the other officers. Jordan says “The officer looked at Daisy while she was speaking, in a way that every young girl wants to be looked at sometime , and because it seemed romantic to me I have remembered the incident ever since” I think quote is important because it shows just how much he is in love with her, he keeps his eyes on her at all times even if she isn’t looking back, he wants to be with her 24/7. We then get the glimpse of the night before Daisy’s wedding day, where she says she doesn’t want Tom she wants Gatsby whose the letter is, this shows us that she is in love with him, but because this revelation came under the influence of alcohol the next day she marries Tom and get on with her life, she lives a life of faux propriety, because its not Tom who she really loves.
I think the idea of this chapter is for the reader to get a lot of background information on the two main iconic characters, Gatsby and Daisy. It’s a revelation for the reader because from up until now we have no idea who these two people actually are and considering there are so many rumours about Gatsby, Nick and the reader wish too know about him. We then get Gatsby explaining himself and then there is a new narrative style from an account of Jordan Baker, This is also interesting because it is entirely Jordan speaking and not Nick saying what she said. This shows how important she is too the story as she is the one who gives inside information on al the characters and she also allows us to see a side of Nick we otherwise wouldn’t see.
Also in this chapter I think Fitzgerald wants to express the idea of Love, and make it real and show how much someone will do to get someone they love to notice them. Gatsby loves Daisy with all his heart but because he loves her so much he doesn’t want to be openly rejected so he is very sneaky and gets Jordan to invite her to Nick’s. Also the way he bought a house opposite the docks, has parties every night in the hope that she may turn up to one, he does this all for Daisy. Fitzgerald also portrays love very vividly in the 8th chapter where Gatsby lies to everyone and says he was driving the car which in the end leads to his death.
As well as love he wants to express Selfishness, this is expressed in the way that although Daisy loves Gatsby and admits this when she’s under the influence of alcohol, she quite openly marries Tom and has a child with him, which is the biggest bond two people can do to show that they are happily married. She does this because she knows that Tom can give her a life full of money and can afford to keep her and a child. She didn’t know if Gatsby was coming back and she wanted a good life so she pushed her feelings aside. This is also shown in chapter 9, where Nick says “They were careless people, Tom and Daisy – they smashes up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made…” I think Fitzgerald wants to express how easy it is for rich people to get away with whatever they want because they pay of the damage. They are so selfish that they don’t actually care about the people they hurt.

The Great Gatsby: Two and Three

Chapter Two and Three.

Chapter Two:
Chapter two is quite similar to chapter 1 as it shows some of the characters behaving exactly how you would expect them to behave. It also introduces some new characters, who we have to make our own opinion on because of the situations they are put in and the people they actually are changes the circumstances that we are put in to judge them.
We start the chapter with Nick describing a place that is half way between New York and West Egg , he describe this place as very dismal and colourless , nick mainly describes the place as being grey. This place turns out to be the place where tom other woman turns out to live with her own other half.
Here is the first introduction to Mrs. Wilson, toms other woman, nick describes her as being a voluptuous woman who over powers her own nerves and is slightly intimidating , she completely ignores her husband when she sees tom and goes straight over to him and interacts with him rather then with her husband. Nick also describes how everything within the town and the shop is covered in dust except for Mrs. Wilson, its like she’s trying to make her self better then she is, which the town has given up on. “Mutton dressed as lamb” is the phrase associated with women like this, this also shows within her apartment that tom has bought her there is lots of gossip magazines and other trash that you wouldn’t find is Daisy’s house. She knows that tom is better then her and is trying to live up to the image of his wife
Tom in this chapter becomes more of a brute and lives up to what his wife said about him being hulking. At the start of the chapter he forces nick to come with him to New York, and tells Mrs. Wilson where to meet him he doesn’t ask her he tells her. He also intimidates Mr. Wilson because Tom gets him cars to fix up and so this allows his business to keep going. I think this is also the reason why Mr. Wilson doesn’t bat an eyelid because he may know about the affair that his wife and Tom are having. Towards the end of the chapter Tom hits Mrs. Wilson . “ making a short deft movement, Tom Buchanan broke her nose with his open hand” I think the way he breaks her nose is very significant because its like he isn’t putting any effort into it. Also he does it with an open hand which shows how powerful he is.
The language used in this chapter is very complex as it brings in lots of different ideas. Nick when describing situation or characters very often relates them to colours. I think this is important because the colours he chooses to very widely relate to the characters themselves for example he says that the place where Mrs. Wilson lives is grey, and grey is such a boring and dull colour it reflects the way that Mrs. Wilson and Daisy’s life are completely different. Nick also says how daisy and Jordon are wearing white like in chapter one, “they were both in white, and their dresses rippling and fluttering” this reflects back to the characters being airless and like life-like angels pure and simple. In chapter three he says that a lot of the stuff Gatsby has is yellow. “ a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains” “yellow cocktail music” “two girls in yellow dresses” yellow is often seen as a nice colour but the denotation for the colour yellow is cowardly and can distort the truth. I think this is important as a lot of the facts about Gatsby are untrue and made up.
Chapter Three:
Chapter three is based very firmly around the main character Gatsby, it starts off by showing you just how wealthy and excessive he is. It starts of with Nick describing how much preparation Gatsby puts into his parties he gets people from New York to deliver his fruits and how he gets caterers to come and light his gardens and to feed his guests with “glistening hors-d’oeuvres, spiced bakes hams crowded against salads of harlequin designs and pastry pigs and turkeys bewitched to a dark gold” I think also the way he describes the food is very captivating it shows the reader how exquisite Gatsby is and how well he treats his guests. It makes you want to go to one of these parties and makes you want to feel like your part of the party to be able to eat these fantastic foods. Gatsby also has a bar in his main hallway, considering that the time the book was written there was a ban on drinking and no-one was allowed to sell or to have alcohol in their house, this shows that although Gatsby seems like a respectable man due to the wealth and size of his house and life but he is willing to break the law and not get caught out on it.
When Nick says “ I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby’s house I was one of the few guests who has actually been invited” I think this is important because he says few and the denotation for few is that there are not many or hardly any people or things . That means that only a few people in comparison to the many people that were there. So considering that Gatsby doesn’t actually invite these people to his parties they all turn up anyways, and he doesn’t mind them being in his own house either he chooses to cater for them. Also how Gatsby invites him is very informal , he doesn’t go to his house and invite him, he sends a messenger but the way Nick describes the letter is important because it says “ signed Jay Gatsby , in a majestic hand” showing that Gatsby signs his letters in eligible writing, connotations of majestic are royal and grand, I think this relates to the person we expect Gatsby to be.
During the party because nick doesn’t know anyone and cannot bare the people at the party he decides to get very drunk “ I was on my way to getting roaring drunk from sheer embarrassment when Jordan baker come out of the house and stood at the head of the marble steps” the way he is embarrassed to be at this party and not to be enjoying himself and to be alone is important and it is like he is looking for a saviour. This is where Jordan comes in, she saves him from getting out of hand, this also relates to the colour issue that nick brings into the novel quite a lot he always explains daisy and Jordan as being dressed in white, like angles, ready to save people, and she does. This also coincides with the next line “she held my hand impersonally, as a promise that she’d take care of me in a minute” .
I think the moment when Nick meets Gatsby was very well planned by F. Scott Fitzgerald, it shows how unknown Gatsby is, although nick quite openly says he doesn’t know Gatsby , the other guests at the table don’t reveal him either which shows that they don’t him either. He says himself that he isn’t a very good host. I think the next paragraph is very key into understanding Gatsby “ he smiled understandingly - much more than understandingly…………some time before he introduced himself I’d got a strong impression that he was picking his words with care” he knows he’s a bad host he knows that not a lot of people actually know who he is, but he makes you understand that its okay for you not to know who he is for he doesn’t really know who he is himself, and then you get to see Gatsby and Nick sees that he isn’t much older then him and he is slightly a-jar but he now seems comfortable being around Nick as it says before this I thought he was choosing his words.
We also learn that Gatsby is a very important person because twice in the chapter he gets called away by his butler because of “Chicago” and “Philadelphia”, this makes the reader asks quite a few questions why is he getting called away by other quite widely known states of America and why and how is he important to them and what do they need from him. This chapter poses a lot of questions about Gatsby and makes the reader to read onwards to find the answers to this question.
I think this chapter is also very well structured in how it is the start of relationships, between Nick and Gatsby and then Nick and Jordan. I think this is important because these relationships have had time to grow, they don’t start straight away or get forced, they are grown into and more relaxed. Although Nick pushes himself onto Jordan, by sticking with her without her permission, she appreciates the company of Nick because he is a careful person, he puts care and planning into everything he does. She says this herself “ I hate careless people. that’s why I like you”. He started the connection between them but she made it official. Nick figures out some interesting facts about Jordan, the fact that she is a liar, although he doesn’t approve of her lying he takes it on board and still likes her for who she is. At the end of the chapter he says how “ I am one of the few honest people that I have eve known” I think this is also why Jordan likes him because he is an honest person, he wouldn’t start a relationship with Jordan until he had finished what he had going with another girl. He is honest with both tom and all the other characters in the book, and he hasn’t lied in the book so far, so why should we not believe this statement although it is very boastful.

The Great Gatsby: Chapter One

In Chapter 1 we are first introduced to some of the main characters in the book. Nick, Tom, Daisy and Jordon.
The book starts of with a small introduction to Nick the main character in the book, he is the main character in the book as he is the narrator and the one who is telling us the story, we learn that Nick has had a good upbringing and that he is very conscious of how people view him. We learn that he has travelled quite a bit and that he has been in the war. This tells that he does have a small fortune behind him to settle his travelling fees and he also went to Yale which means he also has a lot of connections. This is important as it shows that although he lives on the more unfashionable west egg unlike his neighbours he has connections, Such as Gatsby. He mentions the “Great Gatsby” at the end of his speech about himself saying he “represented everything for which I have an unaffected scorn” this shows us that he likes Gatsby in a plain and simple way. Throughout the chapter Nick’s sense of humour the way he speaks about people is very judgmental and very sarcastic e.g. “the whole town is desolate, all the cars have the left rear wheel painted black as a mourning wreath, and there’s a persistent wail all night along the north shore”
We then get an introduction to Daisy, Tom and Jordan, Nick goes for dinner at Tom and Daisy’s house, he has been invited over because Tom and Daisy have just moved to East egg and Daisy is also Nick’s cousin. Tom and Daisy are very well off and don’t see the need to hide this, they live in a big house and they have a lot of horses. Tom is described as a very brutish man as Daisy his own wife calls him “hulking” even if he detests the word she teases him with it, we also learn that Tom has another woman in New York. Daisy herself is seen as a very petite, respectful woman who loves to lounge around with friends and socialise, she teases Tom and Nick quite a lot but this is just her way of enticing people into her trap of getting them to feel the need to like her.
At this dinner party we also get an introduction to Jordan, she is a professional Golfer and considering this her introduction doesn’t suit this lifestyle of having a sport as a job. She is first introduced lying down on the sofas with Daisy. Nick takes an immediate affection for Jordon as he says “I enjoyed looking at her” he then goes on to describe her in a very warm loving way.
I think F.Scott Fitzgerald wanted you to see the characters from another person point of you, as you may take your own assumptions on them. Nick is seen as a judgmental friendly person, Tom a very large intimidating man, Daisy as a woman that can get what she wants and Jordon as a girl who takes everything quite seriously.
He also allows the reader to see the relationship between the characters. The author also entices you to read on by giving you a secondary introduction to Gatsby, not by talking to him but by just seeing him. Mentioning him in this mysterious way makes you want to read onwards and find out who he I and why he keeps being mentioned and why the whole book is dedicate to him.

A Step-Mothers Tale by Anne, Sophie, Chloe and Anita.

It was love at first sight, but I had no idea what I was letting myself in for. He wasn’t the typical perfect gentleman, but there was something about him that I’d never seen in anyone else before. He first introduced me to his daughter about 6 months into the relationship. Up until now it was all going well, my two daughters seemed to take him on as a father figure as soon as they met him. However I never thought that Cinderella took me on as a mother figure. This soon became much clearer as we took the decision to move in with each other. I could sometimes see the jealously burning in her eyes when John and I were close.
The day that john passed away was the most shocking and devastating day of my life, not only had I lost a husband but I also gained something that wasn’t worth the pain. His daughter seemed to think that everything would now be hers as she was his only child. As john had left everything to me I felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility to myself and the girls. I then tried to share everything out between myself and the girls. Cinderella’s greed and spitefulness shined through and my tolerance with her was worn thin.
As Cinderella grew with age I could see that she had inherited her father’s good looks. Her beauty seemed to out class that of my own girls and the other girls in the village. Not only was she beautiful but she lacked the modesty to deny it. Soon her attitude changed towards me and the girls completely, she thought we were inferior to her. Being my now step-daughter I attempted to treat as my own and was often torn between how to deal with her as she often retorted back “you’re not my mother”.
This upset me a lot as this statement was drawn up on a regular basis, she was the only part of john I had left and she still she didn’t want me to have him.
As the years past and Cinderella’s contempt grew, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I decided to delegate the girls to all the individual chores of the house. Cinderella didn’t appreciate this as she was never treated this way by John, in some ways I blame him for this, as he never treated her as an equal she was always his “little princess”, I feel bad when I say this as I know my poor john didn’t intend on this happening.
In the weeks that followed this delegation of chores, I often noticed Cinderella neglecting her role in the household, I tried to be nice and reason with her but she was having none of it. As a result I became a person I wish I never had. I started to resent her and treat her in a way in which I would have disagreed with. She had changed me for the worst…………..

During summer it was announced that the Prince of the land would be having a ball to celebrate his birthday and all the eligible ladies in the land were invited. As a result of Cinderella’s disregard for my authority and the rules of the house, I made the decision to not let her come to the ball. I thought the prince would have the sense to pick personality over looks. So that night we left her behind much to her dismay. The prince seemed arrogant and shallow and only proved that he wasn’t good enough for my girls. That night however there was a girl there that seemed to glow amongst the ordinary who paled in comparison to her beauty, it was clear that the he had made his choice of beauty over brains.
That night when we returned Cinderella seemed to be asleep so we all followed suit. By the morning we had people knocking on our door asking for the glowing girl that was there last night, I offered only my daughters as we thought that Cinderella wasn’t there. It turns out that she had snuck out and disguised herself that night, which to my disappointment had worked in her favour. That night she left with the prince and never returned this was when I realised with a deep sadness that my only piece of john that I had left was gone.

Where rainbows end!

This book is about two people who grow up together and go through many trials where they end as completely different who they thought they would be.

I think this book is a good read, becasue it is romantic , funny, sad, and quite shocking in some areas. Its got good descriptive language and lets you escape in the realsim of their lives.

Its set in epistolary narrative. some people may find this quite hard to read as it goes from one email too the next from different people. i found this narrative really interesting as i thought it was more personal too the reader and invitied you in more.

I think its great story , very realistic and very recommended.
